On the work of MeToo
MeToo’s work begins with a paradox: an artist who withholds biography while producing images built from recognition.
In a culture in which the identity of the artist is often used as the first explanation of the work, MeToo reverses the order. Age, nationality, gender, location and personal history do not precede the image. The viewer encounters the work before encountering a person. This absence does not make the work impersonal; it creates room for projection.
The visual language is intentionally immediate. Hearts, flowers, hands, gender signs, stars, moons, clouds, waves, rainbows, infinity marks and short verbal statements belong to a vocabulary that contemporary viewers can decode almost before thinking. MeToo uses that speed of recognition as raw material.
The Shared Sign
The core works treat symbols as relational units rather than fixed labels. A gender sign beside a heart reads differently from the same sign beside an infinity loop or flower. Meaning is created through adjacency. The surface becomes a network in which identity is not located in one emblem, but negotiated among many.
CALM
The CALM works show the serial method at its clearest. Waves, clouds, eyes, hands and moons remain active while the word itself recurs at different scales. Calm is not blankness. It is the capacity to contain movement without being disorganised by it — dynamic equilibrium rather than withdrawal.
Love / Reciprocity
In the relational works, private feeling becomes public structure. ME TOO / YOU, hearts, hands and infinity forms create an address without supplying a biography. The work depends on a second position — someone who receives, answers or recognises the sign. Reciprocity therefore becomes formal as well as emotional.
Hearts / Flowers
The heart and flower works move from strict grids toward concentrated fields. The sign remains stable while colour, density, hierarchy and context change. In the strongest works, repetition is not redundancy: it becomes a method for testing how much difference can exist inside recognition.
The public corpus is deliberately held to a single square format. Each work is conceived as a unique digital file in one fixed dimension: 50 × 50 cm. The constant boundary is part of the discipline of the project. Variation occurs inside the same field rather than through changes of format or edition.
The project belongs to a post-pop digital condition, but its raw material is not simply mass consumption. It is the contemporary circulation of emotion through compressed signs. Icons, reactions and short phrases have become part of interpersonal speech. MeToo brings that accelerated language back into the slower space of looking.
The digital image can be transmitted and encountered in different places without one fixed geographic location. The anonymous artist and the mobile image therefore mirror one another: the author is indeterminate, while the work remains exact — one file, one square, one visual proposition.
The artist withdraws.
The image remains.
What completes it is the viewer.
